Packaging Unit

Packaging unit: A six-pack with beer bottles

A packaging unit (VPE) is understood to mean the combination of several sales units for better handling (in rare cases but also for strategic sales reasons).

For example, mineral water can often be found in different packaging units in supermarkets or wholesale markets. These are:

  • individual bottles
    • 0.33 liters
    • 0.50 liters
    • 0.70 liters
    • 0.75 liters
    • 1.00 liter
    • 1.50 liters
    • 2.00 liters
  • Bottles packed in plastic film or cardboard, see six carriers
  • a pallet ( transport pallet ) with several levels and, for example, 3 times 4 six-member carriers per level

Beer is also available in six-packs.

Another example is the sale of cables in electrical retailers: Here, a reel or spool with 2, 5 or 10 meters of cable is often used as the sales unit.

Further examples of packaging units are:

  • a pack (20 pieces) or a carton (10 x 20 pieces) of cigarettes ,
  • several (e.g. 5) sponge cloths in one pack
