The defensive position Nordwall was a German defensive position. It was built southwest of Leningrad in 1943 .

This defensive position served as a containment position for an expected Soviet attack on the Leningrad containment front . The northern wall defense position was located between the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ilmen and was about 230 to 260 km deep. Almost all of the important locations and junctions within the defense line had been prepared for all-round defense . This position offered German troops a good defensive position, despite their numerical inferiority. During the Soviet Leningrad-Novgorod operation in the spring of 1944, the defensive position was breached. However, it helped to slow down the advance of the Soviet troops and prevent German units from being trapped during the retreat to the western Panther-Wotan Line .
