La vie de Saint Louis (Eng .: The Life of Saint Louis ) is a literary work of the 14th century written by Jean de Joinville .

Jean de Joinville was commissioned by a granddaughter of St. Louis to write a saint's life on this king, at whose side he had experienced the Sixth Crusade . The Vie de Saint Louis is a hybrid form and shows signs of hagiography , biography , autobiography and the chronicle . Joinville reports in the prose text, which is divided into 768 paragraphs, of the living conditions of Ludwig, the focus is on the crusade to Egypt (1248–1250). Ludwig's sacred behavior is discussed as well as everyday processes from the life of the monarch. Joinville is the first French author to use the first-person form in his text and reports as much about his experiences as he does about Ludwig's. He vividly describes the way to Egypt and the actions of its king.
