The Nepal Sambat calendar was introduced by the Malla kings. The new year starts here in mid-November. The beginning of this era is 879 years after the Christian era.

Bot Gyalo (Tibetan: bod rgyal lo) - the Tibetan calendar - is used by the refugee Tibetans and the Sherpas in the north and is based on the tantric Kalachakra system that was brought to Tibet in 1026 . Flowery names are used, which are derived from the "wheel of time".
