Vindö 40

Vindö - sailing yachts were from the Nötesunds Varv AB in Henån in Sweden built. Nötesunds Varv AB no longer exists, but the innumerable well-preserved long keelers of the “Vindö” brand are still being serviced and restored on Henån today. Today Vindö Marin AB takes over this work.

The boat builder Carl Andersson was the founder of the shipyard. He was born in Kungsviken - one of the most important boat building centers in Sweden. His father and grandfather built ships, especially massive, sturdy fishing boats made of oak .

From 1926 Carl Andersson began to build wooden boats on his own, especially pilot boats and leisure boats, on Henån, initially under the name “Sundsandvik Båtvarv”. At the beginning of the 1960s, his son Karl-Erik took over the company, which was called "Nötesunds Varv AB" from that time on. In 1961 the first “Vindö” was built: the Vindö 28 (8 m × 2.35 m, 28 m²). This is where the name of the Vindö yachts comes from. The number at the end of the boat name does not stand for the length in feet, as is usually the case, but it describes the sail area in m².

In 1963 the well-known and one of the most popular Vindoes followed, the "Vindö 30" (9 m × 2.42 m) and the small "Vindö 18" (6 m × 2.10 m). Both yachts were initially made entirely of wood, later with a GRP hull and wooden superstructure. In 1964 the “Vindö 22” came as the little sister of the “30”.

Over time, the “Vindö 30” developed into a best seller and around 50% of the yachts were exported - mainly to Germany. In 1966 Carl Andersson drew the "Vindö 50". From around this time on, all yachts were manufactured with a GRP hull. In 1971 the "Vindö 40" was created. The "40" also became a bestseller and there are still a lot of well-preserved specimens today. In 1973 the “Vindö 32” followed as a further development of the “30” (8.90 m × 2.75 m). It was developed as an inexpensive alternative to the “Vindö 40”. In cooperation with a third party manufacturer of hulls (Corsair / Bowman), the "Vindö Corsair 75" was created in 1975 with the typical interior of a Vindö. The "Vindö 65" (11.65 m × 3.65 m) and the "Vindö 90" (13 m × 3.95 m) completed the range a short time later.

Carl Andersson died in 1979 and only a year later the shipyard was facing bankruptcy. This was initially fended off by a sale. In 1981 the “Vindö 45” was presented (10.20 m × 3.33 m). The "Vindö 45" was a full-blown cruising yacht. It was taller and wider than any of its predecessors. But even the “Vindö 45” could not stop the threatened bankruptcy of the shipyard. A short time later, the last new Vindö building left the shipyard.
