Vinh Moc Tunnel (2006)

The 2.8 km long tunnel of Vinh Moc were by the people of Vinh Moc during the Vietnam War created to protect them.

causes

Vinh-Moc was one of the most heavily bombed areas as it was just north of the demilitarized zone and important supply lines to South Vietnam ran through the area. About seven tons of bombs were dropped per inhabitant during the war, including air mines . The population sometimes had to stay in the tunnels for months in order to survive. Construction of the tunnel system started in 1965 after the destruction of the Vinh Moc village and lasted over two years. The tunnels were dug into the red clay, a total of 6,000 m³ of earth was moved during the construction of the facility.

nature

It is a three-story tunnel complex that includes former living areas, hospitals, maternity wards, a theater and command rooms. The tunnel system was designed for 94 families or about 300 people, and seventeen children were born here during the war. The plains are at depths of 10, 15 and 20-23 m. The facility had thirteen entrances. The tunnel system can be visited. Vinh-Moc's underground passages are larger and higher than those of the tunnels on Cu-Chi , even if they still seem very narrow to Europeans, as the tunnels are only 1.60 - 1.70 m high and some are very narrow.

Probation

The facility has been listed as a special historical site by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture and Information since 1976.
