Virtual model train

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The virtual model railway (ger .: Virtual Railway Model (VRM)) is a computer simulation of a model train making it one of the train games .

Modes

Usually these programs consist of two program parts: a planning mode and a game mode. In contrast to the train simulation , the focus is on entertainment. The route is limited like a model railway.

Planning mode

In the planning mode , tracks can be laid and signal and switch control can be defined to represent a model railway layout. In some programs there is also the possibility of designing the environment, for example buildings, vegetation and other objects can also be placed.

Game mode

In game mode you can let the trains run. As a rule, automatic control is simulated using signals and contact points or using a script language . With manual control, the player takes control of the trains himself. Here, realistic characteristics of the trains should be more or less well taken into account.

Programs

A distinction is made between 2D and 3D programs, with the focus in 2D programs on planning to scale. 3D programs usually offer realistic train control and the possibility of viewing the layout through different camera perspectives. The virtual model railroad is an inexpensive, space-saving alternative to the normal model railroad . It can also be used to plan a real model railroad at a later date. One of the best known virtual model railways is Eisenbahn.exe .
