Visual synectics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Visual Synectics is a systematic method of idea generation, by the Battelle Institute was developed. It is a variant of the classical synectics . It was originally developed as a method to complement classical synectics. However, it can also be viewed as a stimulus word analysis that works with images instead of words. This is why this method is sometimes referred to as stimulus image analysis. Starting with a more precise problem definition, images are used and analyzed in order to distance oneself from the original problem and to form analogies . The collected solution ideas are then transferred to the actual problem.

procedure

  1. Problem analysis and definition
  2. Spontaneous solutions
  3. Re-formulation of the problem
  4. Choice of pictures: The number of pictures to be chosen varies between three and twenty. Basically, all pictures that have little to do with the actual topic are suitable, e.g. B. Pictures from magazines and catalogs. The pictures can also show extreme athletes such as coffee cups or fruit trees. If the number is larger, the number of images is reduced to three to six (or three to four) of the group. Both a printout of the images on maps and overhead or beamer projections are common.
  5. Image analysis: Each image is taken individually. Each participant describes and interprets what he sees. In particular, impressive elements, associations and feelings should also be mentioned.
  6. Transfer to the problem - "Force Fit": Parts, materials and properties as well as functions as well as positive and negative aspects should be compared.
  7. Development of solution approaches

regulate

The rules of brainstorming apply to visual synectics . There should be at least six participants.

Expenditure of time

A time of 60 to 90 minutes should be planned. The time required is therefore less than with synectics.

variants

Many variants of brainstorming can also be transferred to visual synectics. So the whole z. B. be done in writing analogous to brainwriting , in extreme cases only one person can participate in the visual synectics or the image analysis can be carried out analogously to method 6-3-5 . When it comes to visual synectics with a person, people like to work with a picture folder. This variant is known as Battelle picture folder brainwriting (BBB method).

Visual synectics as a teaching method

The visual synectic is also used as a teaching method in problem-solving-oriented teaching and to promote creativity.
