The municipality is located in the Vobbia valley on the homonymous river , a right tributary of the Scrivia river .

Together with nine other municipalities, Vobbia forms the Comunità Montana Alta Valle Scrivia . The territory of the municipality belongs to the Parco naturale regional dell'Antola (Antola Regional Nature Park). There is a famous castle called Castello della Pietra near the municipality .

According to the Italian classification for seismic activity , Vobbia has been assigned to zone 3. This means that the community is in a seismically inactive zone.
