As a marshalling yard the outer part is called a large railway station or a train station near a major railway station, this decreases certain tasks.
Frequently, several large railway junction striving towards railway lines unite already at a marshalling yard on which then may Zugüberholungen, Zugvereinigungen and Zugtrennungen, coaches transitions , locomotive changes, Eckumsteigeverkehr and another can take place more. In a forecourt you will usually find large parking facilities and marshalling yards to keep the tracks in the central station small.
