Warning time

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The advance warning time describes the time between an event becoming known and its actual occurrence. The longer the period between the two, the larger and better countermeasures, such as evacuations or mobilizations , can be initiated.

During the Cold War , the advance warning period meant the detection of an attack with nuclear weapons by bombers and ICBMs . Today the term is mainly used in earthquake research or in areas of security such as counter-terrorism .
