Vrije Indian Partij

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vrije Indische Partij (VIP, Free Indian Party) was a small Dutch party that existed from 1994 to 2006 and campaigned for the interests of people with origins from the former Dutch colonies of the Dutch East Indies and Suriname .

The party took part in the parliamentary elections of 1994, 1998, 2002 and the new elections of 2003, but never managed to get a seat in the Dutch lower house . In the 2002 election, the party entered a joint list with the senior citizens' party "Ouderenunie". With this party there were intersections with regard to the issues of social security, care for the elderly and health care, as numerous immigrants from the former colonies had meanwhile entered the last phase of life. Previously, a joint start with the “Algemene Senioren Partij” (ASP) had been sought. Since their provincial association Brabant insisted on making the list appear exclusively under the name of the ASP, the VIP refrained from doing so again.

The party chairman was Rob Koop. In the 2002 elections, he shared the top candidacy with Ben Otten from the Ouderenunie.
