W. Grose Limited is a UK automotive company and a former manufacturer of automobiles and bodywork .

Company history

Joseph Grose (1861–1939) founded the company in Northampton in 1888 to manufacture bicycles . In 1897 he bought a vehicle from Coventry Motor Company but was dissatisfied with it. He then bought engines from Benz & Cie. and thus manufactured automobiles from 1899. The brand name was Grose . Automobile production ended in 1900. After that, Grose manufactured car bodies until 1939 for passenger cars and until around 1960 for commercial vehicles . The company still exists today as a dealer. It is directed by Peter William Grose and Gabrielle Margaret Harris. 17 employees are employed.

Grose designed a tubular frame chassis. In it he installed the Benz built-in engines . The engines developed 4 hp and propelled the rear axle via belts. The vehicles were bodied as dog carts. The original price was £ 180 . A total of six vehicles were built.
