Election to the London Assembly 2012
The 2012 London Assembly Election was an election by members of the London Assembly that took place on Thursday 3 May 2012, the same day as the 2012 London Mayoral Election and the 2012 UK Local Election. Although Conservative candidate Boris Johnson won the mayoral elections, the rally's election was the Labor Party's best result since the London Assembly was founded, followed by the party's performance in the 2016 election.
Electoral system
The assembly is elected through the system of additional members. There are fourteen directly elected constituencies, all of which so far have only been won by the Conservative Party or the Labor Party. A further eleven members are allocated through proportional representation with the proviso that the parties must receive at least five percent of the votes in order to qualify for the list.
choice
All registered voters (British, Irish, Commonwealth and EU nationals) residing in London and aged 18 or over as of Thursday 3 May 2012 were eligible to vote in the General Assembly elections. Those who were temporarily absent from London (e.g. traveling for work, vacation, in a dorm or hospital) were also eligible to vote in the general assembly elections. The deadline to register for the polls was midnight on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, although anyone who qualified as an anonymous voter had until midnight on Thursday, April 26, 2012 to register.
