Pre-election leave

The term pre-election leave describes unpaid leave that candidates for the German Bundestag are entitled to before the election in order to enable them to carry out an election campaign . In Germany, a candidate has the right to apply for leave of up to two months within the last two months before the election day. This right can be found in Section 3 of the Deputies Act and is anchored in Article 48 (1) of the Basic Law .

Art. 28 BayAbgG also regulates the election preparation leave for candidates for the Bavarian State Parliament.
