The Waldviertler Schmalspurbahnverein (WSV) is an Austrian association based in Gmünd, formed from a group of railway enthusiasts who have set themselves the common goal of promoting rail traffic on the Waldviertelbahn and operating it themselves on the Alt-Nagelberg - Heidenreichstein route . The operational center is the Heidenreichstein train station. In addition, the association operates the buffet car on NÖVOG special trains on the rest of the Waldviertelbahn network.

Overview of the Heidenreichstein Bf

After the freight traffic between Alt-Nagelberg and Heidenreichstein was stopped by the ÖBB in 2000 and this section of the route should no longer be used as planned, the association leased this route from the ÖBB. Since then, the club members have been responsible for maintaining the route. This includes work such as cutting bushes, swapping sleepers, checking various bridge structures or renovating level crossings. Every year in the summer, special trips are offered on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. On these days, the entire WSV route will be used several times. In Alt-Nagelberg there is always a transfer connection with the nostalgia train of NÖVOG from / to Gmünd. There is also a double entry / exit between Alt-Nagelberg station and the fork in the branches to Litschau (NÖVOG) and Heidenreichstein (WSV).

In addition, various themed courses are offered throughout the year. In addition to the journey in the nostalgic train, passengers should be offered an additional experience. This includes the Santa Claus ride, the forest ghost train or the delicacy train. Special photo trips are offered for train enthusiasts. Bogus approaches make it possible to drive along the route and photograph trains on it at the same time.

vehicles

In addition to some of the club's own vehicles, vehicles that are privately owned by club members are also used on the WSV route. Most of the locomotives and wagons were originally used by ÖBB and have historical links to the Waldviertelbahn.
