The Webby Awards are presented annually by the International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences . The best works are awarded in four main categories and over 100 sub-categories - from interactive advertising and websites to online films and videos. In addition, participants have the opportunity to win the People's Voice Award , an award given by the audience rather than the award jury.

In 1998 the IDG-Verlag stopped The Web , but allowed the Webby team to continue to host the awards. The following categories are awarded:

  • Websites (since 1996)
  • Advertising, Media & PR (since 2006)

  • Online film & video (since 2006)
  • Social (since 2013)
  • Podcasts & Digital Audio (since 2017)

Details

Categories

The Webby Awards now have seven categories with a total of several hundred sub-categories in addition to the awards for outstanding achievements ( Special Achievement ). Websites can be submitted in several sub-categories at the same time - and also win in several categories. Two awards are presented in each sub-category: the Webby Award, given by a renowned jury, and the People's Voice Award , the winner of which is selected by visitors to the Webby Awards website.

Acceptance speeches

The Webby Awards are known for limiting winners' speeches to just five words, which often leads to funny statements: For example, David Bowie remarked in his 2007 speech: “I only get five words? Shit, that was five. Four more there. That's three. Two. "

Lovie awards

The Lovie Awards are an audience award and an offshoot of the Webby Awards.
