World Kidney Day

The World Kidney Day is held annually by the International Society of Nephrology / International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations / International Association of Kidney Foundations organized (IFKF) and is held in March on the second Thursday.

World Kidney Day was launched in 2006 and has had a special motto every year since then, according to which the activities of the national organizations are based. In Germany, World Kidney Day is coordinated by the German Society for Nephrology and the German Kidney Foundation. Since 2010, the German Kidney Foundation's Kidney Week has been held around World Kidney Day in Germany. The two dates were merged for organizational reasons and should concentrate national activities. Every year, open days and information events based on the international motto take place at numerous locations, mainly in hospitals and nephrological practices .

The goals of the International World Kidney Day are to show the importance of the organ in the human organism and to increase awareness of the enormous performance of our kidneys . The incidence and effects of chronic kidney disease and the associated health problems are to be reduced worldwide.
