Wiggler (JTAG)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The wiggler describes an interface between the parallel interface and the JTAG interface . The wiggler is based on a commercial product from Macraigor Systems LLC, but whose circuit diagram was determined by reverse engineering and subsequently spread.

The wiggler is particularly important as a cheap interface for the design , debugging and programming of microprocessors and microcontrollers of embedded systems .

One side of the Wiggler interface is connected to the parallel interface of the PC, the other to the JTAG interface on the embedded device. The electronics usually only consist of a driver (e.g. 74HC244) or level shifter and can be made by yourself. Due to speed limitations and the decreasing availability of the parallel interface on PCs, JTAG interfaces are now also available, which can be controlled via USB instead of the parallel interface.
