William B. Hawks
William Bellinger "Bill" Hawks (born January 29, 1901 in Neenah , Wisconsin , † January 10, 1969 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American film producer .
Life
William Hawks was born in 1901 as the third of five children of the wealthy paper manufacturer Frank W. Hawks (1865–1950) and his wife Helen (born Howard ; 1872–1952). His older brothers were the directors Howard (1896-1977) and Kenneth Hawks (1898-1930). His younger siblings were Grace Louise Hawks (1903-1927) and Helen Bernice Hawks (1906-1911).
From 1906, the family began to spend more and more time in Pasadena , California , where they finally settled completely in 1910. In 1911, his sister Helen Bernice died of an inflammation of the intestine, which Hawk's mother religiously believed not to have treated. In 1927 his sister Grace Louise also died of untreated tuberculosis. His brother Kenneth died in a plane crash in 1930 while filming Such Men Are Dangerous .
Hawks began his career as a talent manager in the 1930s . In 1940 he founded the film production company United Producers Corporation with Charles Boyer , Ronald Colman , Irene Dunne , Anatole Litvak and Lewis Milestone .
Hawks was married three times. His 1929 marriage to actress Bessie Love ended in divorce in 1936. The relationship resulted in a daughter (* 1932). From 1938 to 1942 he was married to actress Virginia Walker . His last marriage to Frances Lilian Koshland lasted from 1951 until Hawk's death in 1969.
