William J. Hoye

William J. Hoye (born May 20, 1940 in Waterbury , Connecticut , USA ) is an American philosopher , scholar and Catholic theologian who worked as a university professor for systematic theology (with special emphasis on theological anthropology ) at the Catholic Theological Faculty of University of Münster teaches.

Life

After attending school in Connecticut from 1955 to 1958 and four semesters of humanistic studies at St. Thomas Seminary College in Bloomfield , Connecticut, William J. Hoye earned the "Associate of Arts" and was then a member of the Jesuits for four years . In 1965, after studying for a further year, he received a “Bachelor of Arts” major in philosophy from Boston University in Chestnut Hill , Massachusetts , where he studied philosophy, mathematics and English as a postgraduate .

In October 1965, he attended the University of Strasbourg two semesters studying theology in which philosophers and fundamental theologian Maurice Nédoncelle on, wrote a master's thesis about the nature of sin by Thomas Aquinas and moved to the University of Munich , where he completed his doctorate under Karl Rahner recorded and continued to study philosophy with K. Rahner, Max Müller and Jörg Splett in addition to theology . In April 1968, Hoye followed his doctoral supervisor Rahner to the University of Münster, where he received his doctorate Actualitas omnium actuum in 1970 . The human visio beata of God according to St. Thomas Aquinas graduated. It is an attempt to explore the meaning of life.

After scientific collaboration from 1971 to 1975 at the Institute for Cusanus Research at the University of Mainz (critical Cusanus Edition) and part-time work (lectures and seminars) from 1973 to 1977 in adult education in the Diocese of Mainz , Hoye was initially a lecturer in philosophy from 1974 to 1977 Philosophical seminar I ( Gerhard Funke ) at the University of Mainz, then from 1979 to June 1980 scientific advisor and professor for systematic theology with special consideration of theological anthropology at the Pedagogical University of Westphalia-Lippe, Dept. Münster. From 1979 to 1980 visiting professor at the Marquette University in  Milwaukee , Wisconsin , USA, from 1980 to 2005 Hoye was professor for systematic theology with special focus on theological anthropology at the University of Munster, where he held weekly public lectures for the study of old age after 2005 .

From 1992 to 1993 he taught as a professor of  practical philosophy , in particular ethics, at the Institute for Philosophy at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg and from 2002 to 2003 as a visiting professor at the Pontifical Athenaeum St. Anselm ( Benedictine University ) in Rome .

William J. Hoye has been a member of the Executive Board of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Josef Pieper Foundation since 2011 , after he was elected a member in 1992.

From 1983 to 1984 Hoye conducted research at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, USA, on: Neo-Platonic Influences in Theology from the 4th to the 6th Centuries - Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship for Early Christian Research; In 1996 as a visiting researcher at the  Bradley Institute for Democracy and Public Values at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and in 1997 as a visiting researcher at the  Center for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University in New York City on: Christian Influences on Democracy .
