William S. Gray

William Sylvester Gray (born August 26, 1896 in Manhattan , New York City , New York , † December 16, 1946 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film editor who was once nominated for an Oscar for best editing.

Life

Gray began his career as a film editor in the Hollywood film industry in 1929 in the crime film The Voice of the City by and with Willard Mack as well as Robert Ames and Sylvia Field in other leading roles. Until 1938 he was involved in the production of a total of 35 films.

At the Academy Awards in 1937 , Gray was nominated for the Oscar for best editing , for the musical film The Great Ziegfeld (1936) by Robert Z. Leonard with William Powell in the title role as Florenz Ziegfeld junior and Luise Rainer and Myrna Loy in other leading roles .
