XBoard is a chess front end for the X Window System that runs on Unix / Linux systems. For Windows there is a corresponding port called WinBoard . The program was originally developed by Tim Mann , but newer versions have also emerged through modifications by HG Muller and others. With XBoard two people can play against each other, but only via a chess server .
Logs
The protocol with which the frontends communicate with the chess programs has become particularly famous . This, called Chess Engine Communication Protocol (CECP) , is still one of the most important standards in this area today , alongside the newer Universal Chess Interface (UCI).
