Wolf Pit (Military)

The military term wolf pit denotes a prepared means of obstacles, consisting of a pit and one or more wooden stakes inserted with a point upwards. The term is derived from the civilian hunting instrument of the wolf pit . Wolf pits were often used in the immediate vicinity of fortresses .
