The World Magnetic Model ( WMM ) is a large-scale model for describing the earth's magnetic field and its changes. It is published jointly by the US National Geophysical Data Center  (NGDC) and the British Geological Survey  (BGS) and is updated every 5 years.

WMM is the geomagnetic standard model for numerous national and international services and is also used in devices with magnetic field sensors , e.g. B. in devices with Android or iOS operating system . The model provides the location misalignment and a description of the earth's magnetic field for an area from one kilometer below to 850 kilometers above the earth's surface.

An alternative description of the earth's magnetic field is the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA).
