Word recognition system

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A word recognition system is used to identify words by recognizing the word boundaries by accessing the mental lexicon (vocabulary) and the semantics (meaning).

Today it is primarily used in the form of software on mobile phones to accelerate input via keyboard or touchscreen, the best known are T9 and Swype . In common writing programs and browsers , it is the basis for detecting spelling and grammar errors.

Word recognition must be distinguished from speech recognition , which makes spoken language accessible to automatic data acquisition, although word recognition algorithms can also be used within speech recognition - this is only rarely the case in modern systems.
