Litter compensation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under union compensation is defined as the distribution of individual piglets very large litters to foreign sows with piglets less. This usually happens during the first two days of life.

As a rule, the smallest piglets stay with the mother, while the larger ones are moved. Since every piglet has a certain place on the mother's teats and this position is determined in rankings and unused teats dry up after a few days, the period for successful litter compensation is limited.
