XL look

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The XL optic is a name for an optic in the cine film camera .

history

XL-optic cameras were introduced in the early 1970s. They had a lens that was bright for the time and were particularly suitable for filming in poor lighting conditions.

functionality

With these cameras, the aperture sector of the rotary shutter has been increased from 180 degrees to 220 - 230 degrees. This means that about 40% more light reached the film in each exposure phase. The cameras equipped with XL lenses had the advantage over the sector diaphragms that were conventional at the time that they could still be used to film when the conventional camera could no longer be used. Due to the longer exposure phase, reduced image sharpness could be seen with fast movements.
