Yaşar Miraç

Yaşar Miraç (born September 9, 1953 in Trabzon ) is a Turkish writer.

Life

Yaşar Miraç, born in Trabzon in 1953, graduated from Ankara University in 1980 with a degree in Turkish Studies. Between 1986 and 1971 numerous poems by him were printed in the province of Trabzon. From 1975 his poems were also published in many literary magazines and newspapers nationwide. In 1978 he brought out the Yeni Türkü Sanat Gazetesi (art magazine Neues Lied) for the first time . In 1979 he founded the Yeni Türkü publishing house . He is also the namesake of the Turkish music group Yeni Türkü . His script for the short film Kemençe'nin Türküsü won first prize from the Ministry of Culture in 1979.

The poetry book Trabzonlu Delikanlı (“The Boy from Trabzon”) was awarded the Door Dil Kurumu (Turkish Language Academy) prize in 1980 and in 1983 he received the Abdi İpekçi Dostluk ve Barış Ödülü (Abdi İpekçi Peace and.) For his poem “Dilsiz Sevdalılar” Friendship prize). His poems have been translated into 15 languages ​​and have been set to music over 100 times by musicians. In 1981 he took part in the Thessaloniki Literature Festival for Turkey. In 1982 he took part in the “Conference on the End of the 20th Century” in Belgrade.

He held readings at several events in Europe - most of them in Germany. In 1982 he moved to Gelsenkirchen. He is married and has two children. From 1988 to 2001 he worked as a teacher at comprehensive schools and in 2003 he was sent to the Struga Lyrikfest in Macedonia to represent Turkey and in 2009 he was invited to the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Yasar Miraç has lived in Istanbul since 2001 and gives regular readings.
