Yaakov Ariel (2007)

Yaakov Ariel , יעקב אריאל, originally Yaakov Stieglitz (* 1937) was Chief Rabbi and Av Beit-Din of the city of Ramat Gan in Israel from 1990 to 2017 .

Life

Yaakov Ariel (Goldfinch) was a son of a respected religious Zionist Jerusalem family. He has a younger brother, Yisrael Ariel , best known for being the founder of the Temple Institute.

education

Ariel began his studies at the yeshiva of the religious Moshav Kfar haRo'eh and then joined the yeshiva Merkas haRav . There he was considered an outstanding student of Rav Zvi Yehuda Kook . Other academic teachers were Rav David Cohen and Rav Shaul Yisraeli.

Rabbinate

Ariel was a long-time rabbi of the religious moshav Kfar Maimon and the settlement of Yamit on the Sinai Peninsula.

Teaching

Ariel is head of the Hesder Yeshiva of Ramat Gan, vice-chairman of the Israeli Rabbis Association, President of the Rabbis Association "Zohar" and the institute "Machon HaTorah VeHa'Aretz" ( Institute for Torah and the Land of Israel ).

He teaches at various institutions including Bar-Ilan University , Orot College and Talpiot College.

Ariel chaired the Torat Haim committee of the Israel Ministry of Education and several Schmitta committees in 1994, 2000 and 2007.
