The Yerba Buena Gardens are a park in San Francisco , California .

It's located south of Market Street, between Fourth Street and Mission Street, in an area the size of approximately 19 blocks. This area got its name in 1835 when the English family William A. Richardson settled here. “Yerba Buena” means “Good Herbs” in Spanish and is the original name of the city of San Francisco. In 1958, the city administration decided to open the site to the public. But the area has only actually been used publicly since 1970. Today concerts and open-air events take place in the well-tended park area in summer.
