The ZIM data format is an open format of the openZIM project for storing internet content (especially wikis ). This enables offline use of a wiki, i.e. use even without an Internet connection. The main focus is on the offline use of Wikipedia content and the content of other Wikimedia projects . The format allows all articles of a wiki or excerpts from them to be saved in compressed form and used regardless of the platform. The offline reader Kiwix serves as the client for the content saved in ZIM format .

ZIM stands for "Zeno IMproved" and replaces the previous Zeno data format. The openZIM project was initiated by Wikimedia CH (Switzerland) and was supported by the Wikimedia Foundation .
