The Henriette Catharina colliery in Essen-Werden -Hamm is a former hard coal mine . In the 19th century, hard coal was mined in tunnels at the colliery .

Mining history

The mine was already in operation around 1800. There were four tunnels south of the Ruhr, today's Hardenbergufer, in operation. One of the four tunnels was designed as a conveyor tunnel . On February 16, 1848, a length field was awarded . Already before 1855 it was consolidated into the United Henriette Catharina colliery.

United Henriette Catharina

The United Henriette Catharina colliery in Essen-Werden-Hamm was created before 1855 from the consolidation of the previously independent collieries, Henriette Catharina and Vereinigte Nettelbruch & Mühlenberg. Not much is reported about the United Henriette Catharina colliery. In the years 1856 and 1857 there was only little mining . In 1858 the tunnel in the Ruhr valley was driven further. On March 31 of the same year, the tunnel reached a length of 177 meters. However, no mining was carried out due to unfavorable outcrops. After 1858 the United Henriette Catharina colliery is no longer mentioned in the documents.
