The Regina colliery in Essen-Kupferdreh is a former hard coal mine . The mine was a small mine, also known as the Regina shaft . The first owner of this small mine was the Paulus & Caesar company.

Mining history

The mine in Essen was put into operation on October 14, 1952. The colliery site of this small mine was at the confluence of the Breddemannweg and the Düschenhofer Wald street . During the ten years of operation, the mine changed owners three times. The successor to the Paulis & Caesar company was Brunne & Caesar. Later this was taken over by Karl Caesar, and in the end the mine was run by the Hannchen union. On November 15, 1962, the mine was stopped. The miners deregistered the mine on March 31, 1963.

Promotion and workforce

The first production and workforce figures are given for the year 1953, in that year 8,403 tons of hard coal were extracted with 28 miners . As early as 1954, the mine had its maximum output. This year 18,098 tons of hard coal were mined, the number of employees was 47. In 1960, 39 employees mined 12,694 tons of hard coal. The last known production and workforce figures for the mine are from 1962, in that year 9,513 tons of hard coal were extracted with eleven miners.
