content

Paul Bienmann found himself in the middle of the street fighting of the Soviet republic in Berlin in 1919. By chance he meets Bruno Kurpek, the younger brother of a friend, who is kneeling over his brother and crying. The friend was killed in a street fight, so that Bruno is now alone. Paul reluctantly agrees that Bruno can stay with him.

Bruno stays with Paul when he moves from Berlin to the Ruhr area in the hope of finally finding work there. At least this hope is being fulfilled. Bruno is also hoping for an opportunity to find his brother's murderer in order to be able to take revenge.

As is typical for ferrymen, this book focuses on the fates of individuals in front of a contemporary historical panorama, so that German history is given a face.
