Pimp tape Vol. 4 is the fourth part of an album series by the rapper Kollegah . It was released on December 11, 2015 via the music label Selfmade Records .

background

In 2005, Kollegah recorded its first release under the title pimp tape . This was initially released for free and was then commercially re-released as a pimp tape (X-Mas Edition) . The second part of the series followed in 2006 with Boss der Bosse . The pimp tape Volume 3 was the end of the trilogy at the end of 2009. In the summer of 2010 the three parts were re-released together with the Hoodtape Volume 1 in a limited steelbox. Two weeks after the release of Chronik 3 , a sampler from Selfmade Records , the label announced at the end of October 2015 that it was releasing another part of the pimp tape series. In the course of the announcement, the video Genocide appeared as a harbinger. The title list was announced on November 12th.

reception

success

Thomas Burkholz, Kollegah, Elvir Omerbegovic and Markus Huber at the gold award ceremony for "pimp tape Volume 4"

Pimp tape Volume 4 entered the German album charts at number 1 . This makes it the second solo release by Kollegah after King that reached the top of the charts. For Selfmade Records it is also the eighth number one placement in a row after Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend 2 , DNA , King , Boomshakkalakka , Neues von Gott , Eighth Day and Chronicle 3 . According to Kollegah, the publication sold over 115,000 units within the first week of sales and thus achieved gold status .

The pieces of the songs were also successful in the single charts. Apart from Mörder, 19 of the 20 pieces were positioned in the German hit parade. Genocide rose to number 73 in the German single charts. In the second week, the piece was ranked 88th. With 61st place, Genocide was also able to position itself in the Austrian charts. After the release of the album Zuhalteertape Volume 4 , 18 songs appeared as newcomers to the German single charts.

Kollegah also celebrated success in the music streaming service Spotify . In the first week of its release, pimp tape Volume 4 was streamed eleven million times. 15 tracks from the album were simultaneously represented in the Spotify Top 50. This enabled Kollegah to break its own 2014 record within the streaming service.

In 2018 the album was also awarded platinum by the Federal Music Industry Association.

criticism

The e-zine Laut.de rated pimp tape Volume 4 with four out of a possible five points. From the point of view of the editor Holger Grevenbrock, Kollegah manifested with the album his “ status as the most virtuoso word acrobat from Cape Arkona to the Allgäu Alps . “Kollegah's“ microcosm of cash, weapons, cars and bitches ”shines“ once again in a never-ending lyrical diversity. “Contributions from guest rappers are unnecessary. The productions of the pieces are characterized by “ beat corsets with powerful bass, accompanied by dark piaono loops ”. Exceptions are the songs Kool & The Gang and VIPIMP , which have “ old-school bonds ”. On Hoodtales IV , the rapper presented “ storyteller qualities. “In contrast, the song Winter offers nothing new compared to its predecessors, Summer and Autumn . Generally “ the songs get painfully flat and poor in knowledge ” as soon as Kollegah leaves “ his trademark empire ” and “takes on the role of Felix Blume ”. However, with the final pieces " show-off rollout Infinity (Outro) and Genocide ", which " poured like a torrential over the listener frozen in salt " , the rapper ignited the " great inferno." "

In a review by the website Rap.de, the pimp tape Volume 4 was praised as " very homogeneous and yet varied ". The album is " all about a relaxed, demonstratively bored pimp vibe ", which lives " on the one hand from the lifestyle of the misogynistic, heartless drug baron, which is consistently depicted down to the smallest detail, and on the other hand just as much from the coherent instrumentals and the precisely performed flows ". Even if the productions do not have the typical scratchy sound of the releases by Alles or Nix Records , the “ certain dose of New York rumbliness is quite refreshing. “Furthermore, Kollegah is praised for the implementation of its image. He said that he “ not only internalized this while rapping ”, but alsonow looks far more credible than before. "With Weißer Testarossa , whose" 80s memory beat "gave the" homogeneous mood of the album [...] a slight scratch ", and Winter , two songs too many are represented on the album in the opinion of the editors. On the other hand, “ the numerous interspersed and adapted lines of bygone days are positively highlighted . "In summary, compress Kollegah with pimps Tape Volume 4 " all its strengths in an album "

Lukas Maier from MZEE describes the album as an “ epoch-making, rousing amalgamation of the best elements from the" pimp tape "series ”. Technically, Kollegah is “ on pioneering as ever ”, which is crowned by its “ textual finesse ”. “ In one run, the listener is confronted with puns and comparisons full of double, triple or up to seventy-fold clarifications (" murderer "), which simply leave the poetry lover speechless. Always provided with puns, quick-wittedness and excessive exaggeration, which truly cast a spell over you in this gangster film called "Pimp Tape Vol. 4". “Finally, it is emphasized that the“ pimp tape Vol. 4 ”is of course a“ show-off roll rap ”. “ It is exactly what it claims to be. "
