Zwartsters Edingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sister monastery of the Zwartsters van Edingen was one of the many social foundations of the 19th century.

It was founded on May 27, 1857 by two Zwarte Befers van Dendermonde , Tecla van Samnergen and Coleta Borm. The congregation, which merged into the Augustinian order on March 7, 1928, merged, according to the information of the Symposium of the Augustinian Family in 1988, with two other congregations to form a new community, the Chanoinesses Hospitalièrs de S. Augustin . Accordingly, it would have been the episcopal congregation of St. Nikolaus Hospital, which actually merged with the Gasthuisste of Ath and Lessines, but was founded in 1266. From what we know, however, we consider this to be unlikely, so that although a merger with another congregation did indeed take place during this period, we do not know which one.
