List of breeds of chicken

The dwarf Brahmas are an old breed of chicken. After a failed attempt in England, they were ultimately bred in Germany from the large breed and other dwarf breeds.

history

In 1887, WF Entwisle tried to dwarf Brahma chickens in England , but failed because of their size. In 1889 L. Neubert from Saxony achieved this. He used the large breeds of feather-footed bantams and silk hens to first breed the "light ones" (white-black columbia) and in 1891 the "dark ones" (yellow-black columbia).

In the meantime, the dwarf Brahmas in Germany are bred in nine recognized colors:

  • white-black columbia,
  • white-blue Colombia
  • yellow-black columbia,
  • yellow-blue Colombia
  • silver-colored banded,
  • partridge colored-banded,
  • blue partridge-colored banded,
  • blue, silver-colored banded with orange back
  • black
  • Isabel-banded
  • blue in the recognition process

  • Roof-shaped control feathers filled with down feathers

  • small, three-row pea comb

particularities

Dwarf brahma hen

The dwarf Brahmas lay smaller eggs than normal domestic chickens.

Another special feature are the feathers on the legs, which mainly grow to the side on the outside of the legs. The dwarf brahmas have a small comb.

This breed of chicken is characterized by a very calm character. The chicks should hatch in spring, as they grow slowly and fletch just as slowly.

The race support is in Germany by the Special Association of Cochin, Brahma and Brahma dwarf - offered growers.
