Edouard Gaston Deville
Édouard Gaston Daniel Deville (born February 21, 1849 in La Charité , France , † September 21, 1924 in Ottawa ) was a French-Canadian explorer .
Deville served in the French Navy . There he carried out hydrographic studies on South Sea islands and Peru until 1874 .
From 1875 to 1924 Deville explored Canada and was the first to perfect the method of photogrammetry . He developed a system for creating maps by recording intersections of photographs taken from tripods. In honor of this achievement, the Deville Glacier in Antarctica has been named after him since 1960 .
