1858: Location of ancient Corinth
  • 1858 : An earthquake destroys the Greek city of Corinth . It will then be rebuilt six kilometers away.
  • 1907 : The British passenger ship Berlin sinks in a storm in the port of Hoek van Holland . 128 people are killed.
  • 1970 : Due to a bomb explosion shortly after take-off, a Swissair passenger plane crashes on its way from Zurich to Tel Aviv. 47 people are killed in the attack, which was actually aimed at an El-Al flight. On the same day, a bomb explodes in an Austrian Airlines plane on the way from Frankfurt to Vienna, which can safely land again in Frankfurt.
  • 1973 : The Israeli air force shoots down a Libyan Airlines Boeing 727 over the Sinai peninsula because they believe it is an enemy aircraft. Of the 113 people on board, only five survive.
  • 2005 : More than 100 people are killed in several avalanches in the Indian part of Kashmir after prolonged snowfalls .
