William David (born February 21, 1969 in Pau ) is a French racing car driver .

Career

William David began his career in 1987 in the French Formula Ford 1600 Championship . In 1989 he secured the overall classification of this championship on a Van Diemen RF89 and won twelve championship races that year. This was followed by the change to Formula 3 , where he was only able to contest a few races due to a lack of financial support. Without a financially strong sponsor, the young Frenchman had another career in monoposto sport. The entry into the Peugeot 905 Spider Cup followed in 1993 - an inexpensive French brand cup. The first season he finished third overall, in 1994 he secured the overall standings. This success opened the door to international sports car racing for him. The initiator was the French racing team owner Gérard Welter , who was active as a vehicle designer at Peugeot . Welter repeatedly recruited pilots from the one-make cup for his racing team, Welter Racing . One of these drivers was David, who competed for the team in the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1995 . David surprisingly put the WR LM94 on pole position during practice . To date, it is the only fastest training time that Welter Racing was able to achieve in this endurance race . In the race, the car retired on Sunday morning after an early lead due to a technical defect. Also in 1996 David competed for Welter in Le Mans and there was another retirement.

He had already entered the French touring car championship in 1995 and became one of the defining drivers there over the next few years. Twice, in 1999 and 2000, he was the superior French super touring champion. David is still active as a racing driver and has competed in the national Super Leon Cup for the past two years.

William David has an impressive track record as a touring car and GT driver; he celebrated 39 race wins and was on the top three podium 45 times.
