Ömer Çelik (born June 15, 1968 in Adana ) is a Turkish political scientist, journalist, politician and since August 2018 spokesman for the Justice and Recovery Party (AKP). In the Yıldırım cabinet , he was the Turkish EU minister and thus also chief negotiator for Turkey's accession negotiations with the European Union .

Life

Çelik graduated from the State Administration Department of the Faculty of Economics and Public Administration at Gazi University in Ankara . He graduated with a degree in political science from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Ankara University . Ömer Çelik has worked as a columnist in the newspapers Yeniyüzyıl, Star and Sabah . He is political advisor to the chairman of the AKP . Çelik was a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the province of Adana in the 22nd legislative term and is also a member of the same province in the 23rd legislative term.

At the beginning of 2013, he was appointed to his cabinet by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . He replaced the then Minister for Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay .

On May 24, 2016, he was presented as the Turkish Minister for Europe . He has been the AKP spokesman since August 2018.
