The Čierna hora ( German  " Black Mountain " ) is a small mountain range in eastern Slovakia , part of the Slovak Ore Mountains . The mountain range is located roughly between the city of Košice in the southeast and the municipalities of Krompachy in the northwest and Kysak in the northeast and is about 250 km² in size. The highest mountain is the Roháčka ( 1029  m nm ) between Margecany and Kluknava .

The Čierna hora area is drained by the Hornád river. The Ružín reservoir , which was built in the 1960s and is mainly used for water supply, but also for recreation, lies within the mountain range .

Beeches usually grow in the lower areas, while spruce and mixed forests occur in the higher areas.

The mountains themselves are only sparsely populated. Part of the main line from Košice to Žilina runs through the mountain range with larger railway junctions in Margecany and Kysak.
