The Er ( Р and р ) is a letter in the Cyrillic alphabet . In the Russian alphabet it is in the 18th position. The letter developed from the Greek Rho , the appearance of which he almost completely adopted. He as well as the written as P of the Latin alphabet , but corresponds to the Latin letter R .
In the Russian language, Р is pronounced as a voiced alveolar vibrant, i.e. it is a sound rolled at the tip of the tongue. If the letter is followed by a palatalized sound, it is pronounced as / rʲ /.
