Brands Hatch 1000km race in 1981
The 1981 Brands Hatch 1000 km race , also known as the Flying Tiger 1000, FIA World Endurance Championship for Driver, Brands Hatch , took place on the Brands Hatch circuit on September 27 and was the 15th and final race of the World Sports Car Championship this year.
The race
The sports car world championship season in 1981 ended with the 1000 km race at Brands Hatch. Even before the championship was over, Lancia had secured the title of world brand championship. With his second place overall in the race - as a partner of Bobby Rahal in a Porsche 935 - the American Bob Garretson was crowned the first sports car world champion in motorsport history.
In this long-distance race came Ford C100 to his first race. In qualification training Manfred Winkelhock achieved the best training time on this vehicle model; During the race, a transmission failure stopped him and Klaus Ludwig prematurely. Overall victory secured Guy Edwards and Emilio de Villota on a plant - Lola T600 .
