Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari

The 1000 km race of Imola 1974 , also 1000 km Imola , took place on June 2 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and was the fourth round of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

The first sports car race with world championship status on the Imola circuit was all about competition between the works cars from Alfa Romeo and Matra . Autodelta registered three Alfa Romeo T33 / TT / 12 for the driver teams Rolf Stommelen / Carlos Reutemann , Carlo Facetti / Andrea de Adamich and Arturo Merzario / Jacky Ickx . The two Matra-Simca MS670C drove Gérard Larrousse , Henri Pescarolo , Jean-Pierre Beltoise andJean-Pierre Jarier .

Jean-Pierre Beltoise started from pole position in the Matra with the number 1, who set the fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 1: 40.170 minutes. Autodelta lost a car on the 12th lap of the race when Merzario in the T33 / TT / 12 collided with the Abarth-Osella PA2 of the former Alfa Romeo works driver Nanni Galli . Beltoise and Jarier's Matra, who had been for a long time for the lead, dropped out a few laps before the end with a valve damage, but was still classified in fourth place in the overall standings. The victory went to the second Matra duo Larrousse / Pescarolo with a two-lap advantage over the best Alfa Romeo, driven by Rolf Stommelen and Carlos Reutemann.
