Eastern Mediterranean
- Spring: After Antiochus III. Having solved his domestic political problems in the Seleucid Empire , he becomes offensive in the Fourth Syrian War against Egypt . He succeeds in taking the port of Antioch on the Orontes , Seleukia in Piera , which has been in Egyptian hands since the last Syrian war . Theodotos , Egyptian governor in Koile- Syria , runs over to Antiochus, to whom he hands over his province. Also Tire and Ptolemais (Acre) open the gates Antiochus. After taking Palestine, Antiochus agrees to a four-month armistice with Egypt.
- In view of Demetrios of Pharos' attacks on Greek cities, Rome declares war on him ( Second Illyrian War ). The Roman consul Lucius Aemilius Paullus succeeds in conquering the Illyrian bases Dimale and Pharos. Demetrios has to flee to Macedonia .
- Attack by the Aetolian League on Aigira and Dyme in the Peloponnese and sack of the Macedonian city of Dion, while the Macedonians besieged and conquered the city of Ambrakos in Epiros and then invaded Aitolia. The Aitolian general Dorimachus then moves against the sanctuary of Dodona in Epiros. The place is being devastated.
- After a two-year democratic interlude, Sparta reintroduced the old two-headed kingship; Kings of Sparta become Agesipolis III. and Lykurgos. Sparta allies itself with the Aetolian League and declares war on the Achaeans.
- Cleomenes III. , formerly King of Sparta, is imprisoned in exile in Egypt. He dies trying to break out of prison. Only now is the since 222 BC. Chr. Newly occupied vacant Spartan throne. While Lycurgus becomes the new king of the Eurypontids , Agesipolis III. , the grandson of Cleombrotus II , took over the government of the Agiads . Since he is still a child, his uncle Cleomenes becomes his guardian.
Western Mediterranean
- Hannibal begins the siege of Saguntum , an ally of Rome . The siege of the city will last eight months. Rome sees this as a breach of the Ebro Treaty .

- Cleomenes III. , King of Sparta, dies in exile in Egypt (* 254 BC )
