Eastern Mediterranean

  • Antipater I , King of Macedonia , tries to get rid of his brother and fellow-king Alexander V after the murder of his mother Thessalonica , who then calls Demetrios I Poliorketes for help. He himself asserts claims to the throne, overthrows Antipater, who is going into exile, has Alexander V killed as an unpleasant competitor and declares himself king of Macedonia.
  • Lysimachus recognizes Demetrios' kingship, who in return leaves Lysimachus the Ionian cities of Asia Minor , which he had previously taken from Demetrios.
  • Demetrios occupies Athens and is celebrated by the city as the liberator from the rule of the tyrant Lachares . An attempt by Sparta to break away from Macedonian suzerainty, he throws down with a victory at Mantineia.
  • Seleucus I appoints his son Antiochus I as co-regent in his kingdom. This gets Stratonike , daughter of Demetrius I of Macedon and by then married to Seleucus I himself, for his wife.
