- Gnaeus Pompeius is based on the Lex Manilia commander-in-chief of Rome in the war against Mithridates VI. In addition to the Empire of Asia Minor, he conquered other parts of the Middle East , such as Syria , which until then belonged to the Seleucid Empire . Without having been commissioned to do this, he arranged the Roman sphere of influence in the east.
