- Slave revolts in the Roman Empire : the army of Spartacus grows to supposedly 200,000 men. Consul Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus Clodianus suffers a heavy defeat in a battle.
- Spring: Consul Lucius Gellius Publicola defeats the slave army of Crixus , who has separated from Spartacus.
- End of the Sertorian War .
- Marcus Terentius Varro Lucullus , proconsul in Macedonia, victoriously wages war against the Thracian Bessen and some Greek cities (Apollonia, Kallatis, Tomis and Olbia) in the Scythia Minor , and brings them under Roman rule.
